CPSI's Digital Signature Capture module allows the electronic application of a secure and legally binding signature to any desired patient document through the use of workstations configured with compact signature capture devices similar to the point-of-sale credit card devices with which most patients will be familiar. The digital capture of signatures expands the system's document management capabilities while reducing the facility's reliance on, and storage of, signed hardcopy paper documents. Set up is quick and easy and any number of customized pre-defined patient documents, such as Admission Forms, Treatment Authorizations, Release of Information Authorizations, Promissory Notes, etc., may be created through Microsoft Word. Documents may include any desired text, single or multiple signatures, hospital specific information, and the automatic inclusion of selected patient demographics. Authorized users can select any of the pre-defined documents from a complete menu of available documents, edit the document if needed, and capture the appropriate signatures.
Once signed, documents become a permanent part of the patient's encounter record immediately available on-line to authorized personnel throughout the facility to view or print as needed. To ensure the integrity of the document and its signatures, the module checks the validity of the signatures each time a signed document is accessed. To provide flexibility, authorized users may access a signed document to accommodate any needed changes in signature or document text. Additional signatures may be captured or existing signatures removed as needed without affecting the validity of the remaining signatures or the document itself, however, if changes are made to the document's text, the document will require the application of new signatures to remain valid. By facilitating the storage of electronic documents while ensuring the integrity of those documents, the Digital Signature Capture module allows our clients to realize a more complete and effective Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
