The CPSI Enterprise Wide Scheduling (EWS) module provides a flexible solution for the scheduling of appointments and tasks for and across all hospital departments and functional areas. The module is table driven giving the hospital a powerful customized tool in the allocation of limited hospital resources and an automated solution for charging patient accounts for scheduled procedures and supplies. The module features easy to understand and use appointment entry screens with "point-and-click" functionality and integrated help screens. Whether a scheduler enters an appointment for a single hospital department, multiple departments, or uses the frequency options to schedule recurring patient visits, the EWS makes the determination and filling of available appointment slots a virtually effortless task. Once established, an appointment's tasks are even easier to reschedule. These scheduling efficiencies, brought together in the EWS, allow schedulers to quickly and accurately enter appointments in a manner that reduces patient wait time between appointments and helps foster better patient relations.
The efficiency of scheduling is enhanced by task defined conflict checking and insurance precertification alerts. Conflict checking provides an automated means by which multiple tasks for an individual patient may be compared for scheduling priority and contraindications. Precertification requirements may be defined by insurance company for each task to provide schedulers with an alert and an opportunity to capture the necessary precertification number. Integration with insurance processing allows the precertification number to flow directly to applicable insurance claims.
The EWS may be used for centralized scheduling, decentralized scheduling, or a mix of the two and, regardless of the method chosen, scheduled procedures/tasks are updated in real time. All schedulers, and the affected departments, have access to accurate and up-to-the-minute schedule information saving hospital personnel both time and frustration. Additionally, access via the CPSI Hospital/Physician Link enables the EWS to become a community solution. Through the physician link, the hospital can furnish local providers secure access to review scheduled hospital appointments for their practice's patients as well as scheduling capabilities. The link offers the physician's office the same real time efficiencies enjoyed by hospital-based schedulers allowing the practice to schedule their patients without requiring a call to the hospital resulting in a time savings for the patient and both physician office and hospital personnel.
In addition to efficient patient appointment/procedure scheduling, the EWS provides the healthcare enterprise with the capability to schedule non-patient related tasks and resources. Unique hospital-wide and departmental non-patient needs, such as the scheduling of meetings, meeting rooms, community events, equipment and physical plant maintenance, hospital vehicles, etc., may be accommodated. This additional scheduling feature increases the overall module flexibility and makes the EWS a truly "enterprise wide" solution.
