CPSI's Laboratory Instrument Interfaces provide an increased level of automation to the hospital laboratory. By reducing the amount of required manual data entry, Laboratory Instrument Interfaces reduce the likelihood of human error and save time in processing laboratory specimens. Interfaces may be unidirectional or bi-directional depending upon the particular analyzer's capabilities and the hospital's needs. Uni-directional interfaces send test result data from the analyzer to the appropriate lab order on the CPSI System . Bar code scanning adds an additional level of automation. Bi-directional interfaces provide two way communications between the CPSI system and the analyzer. For those analyzers capable of advanced communication, bi-directional interfaces can utilize query functions allowing the analyzer to "ask" the CPSI system which tests to run on a given specimen.
Results supplied via either uni-directional or bi-directional interfaces are applied to the appropriate patient order in an unverified status. Designed only to aid the laboratory technician, results must be verified by the technician to complete the order. The Laboratory Instrument Interfaces provide an automated solution for reviewing results and completing orders. Additionally, the instrument interfaces allow the rerunning of an entire panel of tests or, in the case of advanced bi-directional communication, a single test out of a series of tests. The interfaces recognize that a previous result has been reported and prompts the technician to determine if the new result should replace the prior result.
CPSI has interfaces available to most popular laboratory devices. For laboratory device interfaces that are not currently available, CPSI will review the communications specifications of any laboratory device and supply the needed interface if technically feasible. CPSI interface support professionals provide clients with assistance in selecting the proper interfaces and setting up licensed interfaces. To ensure the hospital's success in the use of all instrument interfaces, our interface support professionals provide continuing support and can remotely diagnose any interface communication problems. |
