Operating Room Management
The Operating Room (OR) Management module provides for the efficient scheduling and tracking of all surgical resources involved in the performance of operative procedures while simplifying the associated inventory and patient accounting tasks. The module is a centralized scheduling tool designed specifically for the needs of community hospitals and surgery centers.  The OR Management is user-defined allowing customization to the hospital's surgical services and available resources including surgeons, surgical suites, equipment, supplies, anesthesiology, and associated tasks needed to perform surgical procedures.

The module is flexible with all surgical resources maintained though the use of tables.  Each procedure can be defined to meet the unique requirements of individual surgeons through the use of on-line physician preference lists.  The physician preference list not only facilitates the scheduling of the necessary resources, but also simplifies patient accounting through the automatic creation of charge lists for performed procedures.  Upon completion of the procedure, the patient's charge list can be reviewed on-line and modified as needed prior to posting the procedure charges to the patient account.  As a by-product of the charging process, inventory levels tracked through the Materials Management application are reduced with subpar inventory levels automatically generating restock notification.  In addition to allowing the scheduling of surgical equipment, the equipment tables define the surgical suites in which the equipment may be used and allows the tracking of routine preventative maintenance.

The module allows surgeons to reserve surgical suites for set time blocks without having to schedule a specific patient procedure.  The reservation 'freezes' the selected room subject to a user-defined 'thaw' period.  If a surgeon does not schedule a procedure prior to the thaw period, the reservation expires and the surgical suite is released for scheduling.  To ensure adherence to hospital policy, the module is integrated with Physician Credentialing to verify a given procedure is within a requesting physician's privileges.  If the procedure is not within the physician's set privileges, or if the physician's privileges have been suspended, scheduling is disallowed and a warning is displayed to the scheduler.
